Safety is a two way street and we are counting
on the commuting public to recognize this and help us attain our
goal of ZERO ACCIDENTS throughout the duration of this project.
We plan to utilize this web site to deliver important project information,
including Safety Awareness information and Work Schedules, to commuters
and at the same time solicit important feedback from commuters about
safety conditions along this busy roadway.
REFERENCE SIGNS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY

As part of the overall safety and traffic management plan, enhanced
mile marker signs will be installed every 0.5 miles through the
construction zone during the first half of April. Our goal is to
use these enhanced mile marker signs as reference points for traffic
and construction advisories on this site, and to allow the commuting
public to provide us with location-specific feedback regarding our
construction activity.
The enhanced mile marker signs will mark mile 41.5 through mile
45.5, and will be positioned every 0.5 miles. The signs will be
placed in both the northbound and southbound sides of the highway
adjacent to the breakdown lane.
PLEASE SLOW DOWN !
Of all the factors affecting work zone safety, the speed of passing
traffic is by far the most important factor. Speed of passing traffic
makes work zones one of the most likely places to experience highway
accidents, presents very high risk of injury to our workers, and
greatly complicates our ability to move heavy trucks in and out
of the work zone.
The faster you drive, the more time and distance you need to stop.
And the LESS time you have to react, especially at night when you
can only see as far as your headlights allow. Low beam headlights
allow drivers to typically spot an object on or in the road about
160 feet ahead of your vehicle. Most drivers need about 1.5 seconds
to react. You might be able to swerve and miss an object or person
on the road, but you might NOT. If you are driving too fast, the
consequences could be deadly!
PLEASE REDUCE YOUR SPEED WHEN TRAVELLING WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION
ZONE.
