Aggregate Industries Host Open Day at Sloan Quarry

The Company opens quarry up for a local school to help teach geology 

Las Vegas, Nevada – April 17, 2009: Sloan Quarry, located in Las Vegas, Nevada, recently hosted what has become an annual Open Day for local school children. 130 First Graders from Goolsby Elementary School along with 8 teachers and 10 parents visited the quarry for an educational tour about the quarry. This was the largest open day event ever held at the quarry.

The Open Day allows both operational staff such as quarry manager and executive staff to get involved in helping educate children on geology and on the use of aggregate products. The event also helps the Company to play a pro-active role in the community and to ensure that are operating in a transparent and open fashion.

The Open Day was tied into the in-classroom educational efforts as teachers put together a lesson plan in advance on rock quarries, and the children had written down questions prior to the visit. Aggregate Industries staff answered most of those questions during the introduction to the event.

During the visit, the children were given a bus tour of the quarry and were allowed to take pictures in front of a 100 ton 2 story 777 haul truck and inside the bucket of a 992 loader. Each loader bucket held a full class.

Aggregate Industries hosts between 2 to 4 field trips at Sloan each year including events for school children as well as for customers, regulators, and the local community.
